Sheldon Lavin is a businessman who has been working with OSI Group for many years. He serves as the chief executive officer of the company and is also its chairman. Before becoming a part of the larger family at OSI, Lavin worked as a financial consultant. He learned quite a bit during that part of his life but always wanted to become a business owner, himself. He went to college to learn about finance and accounting, and this is the area where he first helped out with OSI and its goals.
Sheldon Lavin was responsible for getting OSI Group’s first meat processing facility financed. The facility was built in West Chicago in Illinois and helped the company to expand at a faster rate. When Lavin first worked with OSI, it was still named Otto & Sons. The two sons who ran the company before he came aboard were the sons of its original founder whose name was Otto Kolschowsky. It wasn’t long before Lavin became a partial owner of OSI.
Sheldon Lavin only agreed to work with OSI Group if it committed itself to expanding its operations around the world. Today, the company has over 70 facilities in 17 countries and employs over 20,000 peoples. Most of the food offerings that come from the company are protein products, but it also offers customers sauces, vegetable products, and baked goods. Lavin has admitted that OSI runs a bit differently than most companies. It follows certain rules but functions more like a large family rather than a business.
Sheldon Lavin gives the employees of OSI Group a lot of credit for the success of the company. He revealed in a recent interview that his office is always open to those who need to speak with him. He went on to talk about how everyone at the corporate office eats together and how they call each by their first names. Over the years, Sheldon Lavin has continued to support the Ronald McDonald House Charities. He has also been a part of efforts to improve many of the communities that his company operates in.
